![]() ![]() Commissioner of Public Affairs and Safety (commonly known as the Mayor).Under this form of government, Cheyenne's municipal affairs were handled by three elected officials. On January 5th, 1914, the commissioner form of government was formally adopted by the City of Cheyenne. On February 21, 1911, the Wyoming State Legislature passed an Act whereby cities in Wyoming with over 10,000 population which had already been incorporated could adopt a commissioner form of government. Since their implementation, these elected officials have been referred to, or known by, various titles: Commissioners (1867), Board of Aldermen (1868-69), Board of Trustees (1870-77), City Council (1878-1913), Commissioners (1914-1971), and City Council (1972-present). Shortly thereafter, six Commissioners were elected to help the Mayor organize a local government to protect citizens and establish laws. On August 8, 1867, the first charter for the government of the City of Cheyenne was established. ![]()
